The capital for Kemaman district is Chukai, Some basic infrastructure such as shopping mall and cinema can be found in the city area. Chukai is famous for stuffed crab, seafood and good coffee. Try Tong Juan Restaurant and the coffee, toast and kaya spread of Kedai Kopi Hai Ping.


Adjoining is Kuala Kemaman, a little fishing village which is famous of otak-otak, satar and ikan bakar. The jetty at Kuala Kemaman river are crowded with home coming fishing boat every evening. Perhaps they are one of the supply sources for the yummie fresh catched crab, otak-otak (fish meat well-marinated in spices and wrapped in coconut leaves) and ikan bakar in Kemaman area.


The development of Kemaman has lot to do with the petroleum refine activities in Kerteh. Kemaman Port which is a few kilometers outside the town center is the main port  to anchor the large oil tankers anchor.


Fireflies Boat Cruise di Sungai Yak Yah: Take a cruise along Sungai Yak Yah (Yak Yah River) to view one of nature's most amazing phenomena. As night falls, the riverbanks turn into a grand theatre where hundreds of fireflies form a symphony of lights. This astounding natural attraction is sitated about 15km from Kijal. To go on a visitors can make arrangements with local tour operators.


Kemaman Zoo should be in your list of visit if you're touring in Kemaman. The zoo is open everyday from 9 am to 5 pm. The zoo requires you to pay a minimum fee of RM10 for adults and RM7 for kids. Even though it is claimed to be a mini zoo, but the space of the compound is very large and homed to many variety of animals comprising largely of birds, elephants, tigers, orang utan, crocodiles, tapirs and some local river fishes.
While visiting Terengganu recently, off we went on a squid jigging (candat sotong) trip, one of the most popular activities to indulge in while in this East Coast state.

Without doubt, Terengganu is one of the best holiday destinations, with its beautiful outlying islands. Whether it is the powdery white sandy beaches, the underwater world of crystal clear azure waters, coral reefs or sea creatures, there are many reasons to visit these islands.

Pulau Tenggol


Pulau Tenggol is one of the most beautiful islands in east cost of Malaysia; know for its perfect waters warmed by South China Sea.The small and compact island of Pulau Tenggol is a forgotten gem set in the clear blue waters of the South China Sea - an emerald of deep, green forested interior flanked by white powder beaches and beautiful reefs.

At Pulau Tenggol, divers and Snorkellers alike can find pristine coral formations and a number of submerged rocks with excellent coral growths. Tenggol and its surrounding islands offer good visibility with teeming of marine life, including sharks, rays, nudibranch and a wide variety of hard and soft corals.Pulau Tenggol temperatures rage from breezy 32°c in the day to cool 25°c at night.


Pulau Perhentian


Touted as one of the most beautiful islands in the world, Pulau Perhentian, which is 1½ hours by speedboat from the Kuala Besut jetty, is part of our National Marine Park. It comprises Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Pulau Rawa, Pulau Serenggeh, Pulau Susu Dara Besar and Pulau Susu Dara Kecil, about 20km from the mainland.

Snorkelling is highly recommended as you can spot manta rays, reef sharks, barracudas and turtles. For divers, it is definitely a haven. The best time for diving is between March and September. Dive equipment for rental is readily available at most dive centres on both Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil.


Pulau Kapas

 

Just six kilometres from Marang town, Pulau Kapas is one of the earliest tourist destinations in Terengganu.It is an ideal retreat for families. While it is known specifically for squid jigging, visitors can go swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving, jungle trekking and canoeing.


Pulau Redang

Embellished by tourism infrastructures, Pulau Redang is one of the more popular islands.

Under the Fisheries Act of 1985, it is one of nine islands — including Pulau Lima, Pulau Paku Besar, Pulau Paku Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Besar, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Ling and Pulau Pinang that form the Pulau Redang Marine Park.

Redang is accessible by air, with direct flights from Subang Airport, Kuala Lumpur and Seletar Airport, Singapore, operated by Berjaya Air.

It takes about 45 minutes by speed boat from Merang jetty. Alternatively, a ferry ride from Shah Bandar Jetty in Kuala Terengganu to the island will take about one hour 45 minutes.

There are pearly-white sandy beaches, sparkling clear seawater and impressive marine fauna. Dive sites include Tanjung Lang, Tanjung Tokong, Tanjung Gua Kawah, Pasir Panjang and Batu Mak Cantek.
